TAKING SOME TIME FOR ME

Guilt is my middle name and I feel guilty every day. Am I a good mum, do I spend enough time with my parents, am I a good wife, am I good enough at my job?????

When I’m at work I constantly feel guilty that I’m not with my kids & if I sit down for more than 5 minutes at home I can’t relax as I feel guilty I’m not doing one of the hundreds of jobs on my ‘to do list’. I’ve been like this as long as I can remember but over the last year or two my work life has become increasingly busy & time consuming and eating into my family time more and more. I love my job but with the hours & late evenings I work it’s been taking a toll on my health. I’ve had constant headaches and near panic attacks recently and I feel constantly tired and sluggish. Plus my skin and hair have felt dry and lacking any kind of radiance.

It got me thinking that I need to make a few changes in my life and my work life balance is really affecting me. The first thing I needed to do was stop going in to work on my supposed days off as I need those days to recharge and be with my own kids and family and secondly that I needed a bit of time to get ‘me’ back. The term self care sounds very indulgent but really it’s vital to our health, well being and happiness. I’m trying to teach myself, that by looking after myself I’ll be a much better mum, wife, daughter, friend & teacher.

So I’ve been trying to increase my ways to switch off by doing the following things;

💫A favourite TV show. I do like to watch TV and when I don’t get in until quite late some evenings it’s my way of relaxing & swiIMG_9020.PNGtching off from work. You can’t beat a bit of ‘Corrie’!!

💫A relaxing bath. I love a luxurious bubble bath using relaxing & sleep enhancing products. My favourites are Neom Sleep bubble bath & Neom relaxation drops. I light my candles, lay back and just switch off to the world.

💫Skin care. A good skin care routine is vital and spending 15 minutes morning & night on this will work wonders. I’m currently loving Elemis products.

IMG_9022💫Blogging! Blogging really is my escape and the best thing I could have started.

💫A walk. Fresh air and  light exercise makes you feel great & having our pup Dora will be great for this once we can take her out for walks.

💫A relaxing cocktail or glass of wine.  A mojito or porn star martini is definitely a lovely indulgent way to relax and switch off from sIMG_9032tress & a chilled glass of rosé cane do wonders, in moderation.

💫Meeting up with an old friend is always

lovely & it’s so therapeutic to have a great catch up. It’s easy for life to march on at a crazy pace and therefore it’s easy to lose touch with old friends. I’ve been making a conscious effort recently to pick up the phone & actually organise dates with friends instead of always promising to meet up soon & never actually doing it. Yes life is busy but you have to find time for your friends.

IMG_9035💫Shopping. Retail therapy never fails to make me feel better.

💫A break away. I’m someone who loves to have a holiday or mini break booked to look forward to. Either a proper holiday or just a few days with a change of scenery is a wonderful way to recharge your batteries.

💫Pilates. Starting Pilates classes has been brilliant for me as I really do switch off and just focus on the movements and my body. I go to a lovely instructor, also called Zoë, who is excellent at what she does & so calming which I love. IMG_9025.JPG

💫Water. Drinking more water is something I need to make a conscious effort to do to help flush out my system. Drinking water has so many health benefits.

💫Sleep more. I’m not good at getting to bed early and I find switching off hard. I’m trying to be better at switching off my phone and to switch off the TV a little earlier to get a longer and better nights sleep.

If you don’t look after yourself you can’t be at your best & look after others so it’s important to find a few minutes every day just for you however big or small it might be.
