HELLO APRIL 2018
Oh where to begin! I’m currently writing this sat on a flight to Australia after 3 days that were just ‘out of this world’ in Dubai. I’ll be writing separate blog posts about our amazing trip but I’m just living my best life right now!
Also, after an unbelievably busy few weeks at work leading up to our vacation I didn’t have much time to write & getting back to it has made me realise how much I love it and how much it helps keep my stress & anxiety levels at bay!

- A gorgeous Mothers Day with my amazing kids & family.
- Loving these three whole weeks of pure uninterrupted family time which is desperately needed.
- A few lovely meals out with lovely friends.
LIFESTYLE & HOME
Easter decorating & entertaining
I love Easter & Spring & as we put our clocks forward and enjoy the lighter evenings I also like to give the house a Spring clean & clear out and bring some spring freshness into our home. The sun starts to peek through after a few grey miserable months and it’s a time for new beginnings seeing all the beautiful spring flowers coming through and baby lambs in the fields.
Opening the windows and letting in the fresh air always feels so cleansing, and changing the winters cosy berry and spiced smelling candles to fresh linen smells always feels ‘spring like’. My absolute favourite candle is Yankee Candle Pink Sands & I always have one burning in my house so the smell has a comforting feel to me. I don’t go as overboard on Easter decorations as I do Christmas but I do like to bring some Easter & Spring touches into the house including lots of fresh daffodils & you can pick up some lovely Easter items in many shops such as Next, The Range, Homesense & TK Maxx which is lovely for over the Easter weekend, especially if you’re hosting. We love to see friends over the Easter break but Easter Sunday is always a family day which we host at our house.
However, this year is the first year for a long time that we’ve not had family to our house on Easter Sunday as we’re in Australia so I made my house ‘Easter ready’ & we had my parents round for an early Easter Day before we left.
It’s only us and my lovely parents but I always like to make it as ‘Eastery’ as possible with Hot Cross Buns, Easter cupcakes and Bucks Fizz mid morning, a walk and visit to a local park or beauty spot in the afternoon then back to ours for a traditional lamb dinner for tea. My mum is always very busy leading up to Easter so it’s nice to let her totally relax for the day and wait on her hand and foot! I do most of the cooking but Tony is a fantastic sous chef! It’s a simple day but all about the kids and family and a house filled with Easter Fayre, candles, Prosecco, chocolate, daffodils and lots of love xx
BEAUTY & STYLE
Travel beauty tips, toiletries & skin care
I like to keep up to a good skin care regime when I’m travelling and flying can really dry out your skin so it’s important to keep it moisturised.
I like to purchase travel sets of my favourite brand to take on holiday so I’m not weighing down my luggage with big jars and bottles. They’re usually just big enough to last the whole holiday and this year I’m loving Martinique Travel Collection (Anti-Ageing)
*An ELEMIS signature collection comprised of all your favourite ELEMIS anti-ageing hero products for skin that is kept hydrated and youthful-looking all holiday-long. Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm will cleanse and moisturise your skin ensuring that it is perfectly primed for Pro-Collagen Marine Cream during the day and Pro-Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream before you sleep. You’ll wake up looking and feeling rested with a firmer looking, radiant complexion. A set of Pro-Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks will soothe and smooth the delicate eye area after a flight or a heavy night. For the body, the heavenly scented Frangipani Monoi Body Oil will seal in moisturise keeping your sun-kissed limbs soft and supple. Layer the fragrance by using Exotic Frangipani Monoi Shower Cream before. Every time you use it when you return from your holiday, you’ll be reminded of long sunny days and warm enchanted evenings.*
I keep makeup to a minimum on flights and when it’s long haul I don’t wear foundation, just a bit of bronzer, mascara and lipstick and I make sure I drink lots of water.
I always wear factor 50 face sunblock under my makeup on holiday as I don’t like my face to be in the sun any more. I use St Tropez self tan luxe facial oil face tan and wear bronzer to still give me a sun kissed look.
I absolutely love delicious cocktails on holiday, however sun, salt from the sea & air conditioning all dry out the skin so keeping hydrated by drinking lots & lots of water is vital.
COCKTAIL OF THE MONTH
The Mai Tai is an alcoholic cocktail based on rum, Curaçao liqueur, orgeat syrup, and lime juice, associated with Polynesian-style settings.
Primary alcohol by volume
On the rocks; poured over ice
pineapple spear, mint leaves and lime shell
Old Fashioned glass
4 cl white rum
cl dark rum
1.5 cl orange curaçao
1.5 cl orgeat syrup
1 cl fresh lime juice
Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain into glass. Garnish and serve with straw.
BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘Can you keep a secret? Sophie Kinsella
‘Certain she’s going to die in a plane crash, Emma blurts out her deepest, darkest secrets to the sexy stranger next to her. But it’s ok as she’ll never have to see him again….. Will she?
As a fan of Sophie Kinsellas ‘Shopaholic’ series, and knowing I had a very long flight to Australia ahead of me, I downloaded a few of Sophie’s books on my Kindle for my travels and this was one of my favourites. Her books are always easy to read, not too challenging and very humorous which is perfect for some light hearted holiday reading. I switched off completely & was transported to the lovable Emma’s world. Predictable and an easy read but very enjoyable.
FILM OF THE MONTH
‘Finding your Feet’
Any film that can boast Celia Imrie, Imelda Staunton and Joanna Lumley is sure to be a winner in my book & I was ‘almost’ right with this one.
The film is based around a middle class snob on the eve of retirement takes refuge with her bohemian sister after she discovers her husband is having an affair with her best friend.
An easy ‘feel good’ film, the plot won’t blow you away but with a stellar cast, the performances are as outstanding as you’d expect. Worth a watch on a rainy day to lift your spirits and appreciate the talents of these three wonderful British doyennes of stage & screen.
