Gosh this year is flying by! It’s already early May and all my summer plans are coming together nicely. I’m extremely busy at work this month but then once June & July arrive my family & I have lots of fabulous things to look forward to as its my Mum & Dads Golden Wedding Anniversary & my mums 70th birthday within a month of each other. We’ve got a lovely family weekend in a cottage in North Yorkshire booked on the weekend of their anniversary, a big dinner at the beautiful venue 315 in Huddersfield the week after, a party for my mums 70th and a week in a villa in Spain in July with all the family to celebrate these milestones. I’m even more excited as my brother, sister -in-law & 2 nephews are coming to Spain also & although we see them regularly, with them living in Manchester it’s not quite as often as I’d like so a full week enjoying sun, sea & sangria with them will be wonderful. My mum & dad will be so thrilled to have all their family with them celebrating the amazing achievement of 50 years in a very happy marriage & I can’t wait to share it with them.

Getting my outdoor space ready for Summer

There’s nothing I love more than being at home and making home improvements. So when summer is on its way, improving & getting my outdoor space ready is a top priority in the hope of breakfasts & bbq’s outside in relaxing surroundings.

I’ve just purchased a new pateo set for a lovely seating area consisting of two chairs, a 2 seater sofa and a coffee table in black rattan & glass & I love it. I’m now looking forward to spending some lovely warm evenings sat outside with a cold glass of rose. Fingers crossed for some good weather this year!!!

Tony is very good at DIY so I usually leave him to all the DIY jobs whilst I do the cooking & cleaning etc etc but I’m determined this year that I’m going to be painting all my fences & making the outdoor area look fabulous to prove to myself I can do the DIY jobs as well as making somewhere look aesthetically beautiful. The one thing I’ve wanted for ages is a jacuzzi so I’m going to treat us to a Lay Zee spa this summer then save up for a permanent jacuzzi for next year.

IMG_0841.JPGBeing out in Australia & Dubai, I adore all the palm trees & tropical plants. Our friends in Australia who we stayed with had a gorgeous outdoor area with beautiful tropical plants. I wanted to recreate a small taste of this in our garden so I’ve ordered 2 palm trees & we also took cuttings from our friends beautiful Frangipani tree and brought it back home. I can’t wait to get them all planted & hope they can survive in our UK weather!!!!

Fairy lights up, candles out & sprucing up my outdoor dining table and chairs will all be sorted in the next few weeks so all I can do now is pray for a beautiful British Summer & not the usual wash out!!!!

Getting my body summer ready!

In mid April, residents of the U.K. had a shock! Yes the sun actually came out!!! I’m very lucky this year that I have seen 3 weeks of beautiful sunshine on my vacation but the UK really has been craving some good weather & at last it came! IMG_0840

Of course as the warmer weather comes along so does summer clothing! Then the panic about our legs & bodies being ‘summer ready’ begins!! Getting a nice tan whilst I was away I feel & look healthier so I’m determined to keep it. A real tan fades but I keep mine topped up with Garnier Summer body moisturising lotion. I love this product and it just gradually builds up my tan whilst keeping my body moisturised and goes on without streaks plus the apricot smell is much nicer than other tanning products. It comes in light, medium & dark so you can choose which shade you want to go. If I need an immediate tan for a night out I always go to St Tropez self tan mousse and I also love St Tropez facial tanning oil as I never like to tan my face and always use factor 50 sun cream on it.

Another thing to keep on top on in the summer months is keeping legs hair free. I always shave as it’s quick and easy to keep on top of. Isabelle who has just turned 13 has recently started shaving her legs & for her I like to get her the ….. Razor which helps to protect her from nicking her skin  & a basic shaving cream such as …….. to keep her legs moisturised.

IMG_0833.JPGPimm’s has become as synonymous with British Summer time as picnics in the parkand barbecued burgers, but do you know how to make it properly?
FOR ONE GLASS YOU NEED… A highball glass

  • 50ml Pimm’s No 1
  • 150ml lemonade
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Chopped strawberries
  • Sliced orange
  • Chopped cucumber
  • Plenty of ice

It’s quite simple really!  Fill your glass with ice, pop in the mint and chopped fruit, pour in the Pimm’s, top with lemonade and stir.

To make up a pitcher use the same method, this time with a handful each of the chopped fruit, cucumber and mint leaves. Mix the quantity of cocktail you need, keeping the ratio to one part Pimm’s and three parts lemonade.

Drink & Enjoy! Sunshine recommended!!!

‘Your best friend stole your fiancé. Do you run away and hide, or start planning your revenge?’

‘Best friend, soulmate, confidante . . . backstabber.’IMG_0834

‘Amy thought she knew everything there was to know about her best friend Melissa. Then again, Amy also thought she was on the verge of the wedding of her dreams to her long-distance fiancé.

Until she pays a surprise trip home to London. Jack is out, but it’s clear another woman has been making herself at home in their flat.

There’s something about her stuff that feels oddly familiar . . . and then it hits Amy. The Other Woman is Melissa.

Amy has lost her home, her fiancé and her best friend in one disastrous weekend – but instead of falling apart, she’s determined to get her own back.

Piecing her life back together won’t be half as fun as dismantling theirs, after all.’

This book was one of the Top 5 in the Sunday Times Bestseller List & I can honestly say I loved it!  Brilliant, original, edgy and compulsively readable. I was gripped right from the start. It was full of twists & turns and oozes dry wit! A fabulous book that I couldn’t put down & didn’t want to end.

  • A dying mother’s life lessons to the husband and sons she left behind. Based on the best-selling book by St John (Singe) Greene, the film is the story of Singe and Kate, a couple from North Somerset, whose lives were turned upside down when Kate was diagnosed with an incurable breast cancer. Over her last few days, she created her list: writing her thoughts and memories down, to help the man she loved create the best life possible for their two sons, after she was gone.

IMG_0835This film was beautiful from start to finish, but knowing it is based on a true story really does pull at every single heartstring and, as a mum it’s heartbreaking knowing what she went through. The film is beautifully acted by the entire cast but Emilia Fox & Raife Spall really do excel. It has been very sensitively crafted to keep it as true to the book as possible & I highly recommend it.

Planning my Mum & Dad’s Golden Wedding Anniversary and my mums 70th birthday

Not getting much family time at home this month! 😞

  1. St Tropez tanning facial oil
  2. ‘Famously in Love’ I discovered this US drama on my very long flight home from Oz & watched all Series 1. I now desperately need Netflix to watch series 2 as I loved it.
  3. Crystal Collagen Gold Powder Eye Mask. I find these really refreshing for my eyes and they reduce puffinessIMG_0837
  4. Dermaplaning. I had my first Dermaplaning facial this week and it’s done wonders for my skin. See my separate blog post review.
  5. IMG_0838.JPGFearne Cottons podcast series ‘Happy Place’. Fearne is warm & eloquent and has a great guest list. I love listening to this positive & interesting series when I’m in the car.
