BREAKING OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE 

Fear is essential to growth but all too often it’s easier to stay within your comfort zone. By forcing yourself to break out of your comfort zone and try new things it helps to build your confidence, learn new things and enjoy new life experiences. After all, if you’re not moving forwards you’re standing still whilst others go past you. 

Here are a few ideas, some big some small, on how to break out of your comfort zone or fight your fears! 

  1. Take a new way home from work
  2. Approach someone who intimidates you and compliment them
  3. Go without makeup for a day
  4. Go to lunch by yourself

    Have a difficult conversation face to face instead of email/text/phone

  6. Try a new coffee place in town or go somewhere new every time you go out to eat
  7. Take a new fitness class you’ve always wanted to try. Laugh at yourself when you suck
  8. Call your Mother just to tell her how much you love her
  9. Send someone flowers for no reason
  10. Ask for a raise

  1. Write 5 thank you cards to your best friends and tell them why they mean so much to you. Send them old school via snail mail
  2. Pull an all nighter when a fun opportunity arises instead of going home
  3. Hunt down a hilarious photo of yourself and post it on social media
  4. Jump into a lake with your clothes on
  5. Lead your friend/significant other to a beautiful place, bring picnic supplies
  6. Go somewhere you shouldn’t be
  7. Night hike under the stars

  1. Wear an outfit that’s not your usual style
  2. Smile more

  1. Make a new recipe you’ve never tried before
  2. Email 5 of your closest friends, and ask them this.
  • What is your favorite memory of us?
  • What advice do you think I need to know about life?
  • Describe me in 5 words
  1. Get a massage
  2. Say no to something you don’t like to do but often do out of guilt

  4. Ask someone on a date who you think is out of your league
  5. Ride a bucking bull
  6. Buy a pack of sticky notes. Start anonymously leaving compliments around for friends, coworkers, lovers or strangers

  1. Attend a costume party, and go all out
  2. Go zip lining
  3. Hire a photographer, and get head shots… just because
  4. Unplug from email, social media and your phone for 24 hrs
  5. Sing karaoke
  6. Make a fool of yourself on a dance floor in public
  7. Go all out on a bubble bath. Candles, music, and a big glass of wine
  8. Take a day trip to somewhere you’ve always wanted to go
  9. Buy lunch for a homeless person, or better yet, take them out to lunch and hear their story
  10. Train for a physical event

  1. Raise money for a charity
  2. Ditch your head and follow your heart for a decision.
  3. Apply for jobs that intimidate youhappy traveler waiting for the flight in airport
  4. Stand up for yourself

  2. Set up a tent and camp in your backyard
  3. Play hooky from work or school. Spend it doing something FUN or for yourself
  4. Dress up for no good reason, or wear something you normally wouldn’

  1. Ask someone on a date
  2. Call an old friend it’s long overdue with // reconnect with someone from your past
  3. Give an HONEST opinion instead of a canned safe one
  4. Strike up a conversation with a stranger

  6. Bake some cookies for the old folks home
  7. When ordering a drink at a restaurant, tell the waiter to surprise you
  8. Eat the unusual thing. Instead of choosing the meat-based dish at lunch try the vegetarian alternative. Or try the fish if you usually go for the beef
  9. Smile towards everyone. Instead of just going along with your day in your normal social way try smiling more
  10. Cook something new. Each week try cooking a new recipe. It is most often a tasty experiment and helps us to find, sometimes unexpected, new favourites

  1. Mix up your music & try new music every month
  2. Have a day of kindness
  3. Take a day to be offline. It’s a wonderful change of pace and feels like you’re on a small, healthy and extra relaxing vacation
  4. Hide an affectionate note for a loved one
  5. Go out. If you usually stay in during the weekdays, then call up a few friends and head down to the pub for a few hours even if it’s just a Wednesday

  8. Find a new hobby
  9. Learn to ballroom dance
  10. Watch a foreign film with subtitles

  1. Answer the phone call. Phone calls are something I dread so this is a big one for me
  2. Challenge yourself with a fitness goal such as a 10k or half marathon & train hard

  5. Be a role model and/or mentor to someone
  6. Stop saying sorry for things you didn’t do
  7. Do something you’ve been putting off for a while
  8. Take your partner on a date somewhere new
  9. Believe in yourself
