MINI BREAK TO FLAMINGO LAND & THE BEAUTIFUL CITY OF YORK
My lovely sister-in-law Kate is still on maternity leave and with a long summer stretched ahead of us and knowing my two were off school for six weeks we decided to book a couple of days away just Kate, myself and the 4 kids. As my two nephews are very young we didn’t want to go too far away but we also wanted somewhere that would be good for a 13, 10, 3 & 1 year old. We decided on Flamingo Land in Malton which is only just over an hour away for us as we thought the mix of theme park and zoo would have something for all of them.
We set off the day before and stayed at a great Premiere Inn in York. From my experience, when you’re just going somewhere for a quick night away you really can’t go wrong with Premiere Inns. Extremely clean, very comfy beds and a fabulous breakfast it was perfect for one night in York when you only need a room to wash and sleep.
York is a gorgeous city brimming with character and history and it is so picturesque. We had a lovely walk round then took the children to see ‘The Incredibles’ at the fabulous Everyman Cinema before a great tea at Pizza Express. A fab day for the kids and Kate and myself loved being away with them all.
The next day we were up bright and early for breakfast before we drove the 40 minute journey to Flamingoland in Malton North Yorkshire.
Of all the theme parks in the North of England, in my opinion Flamingoland has the most to do for younger children as, along with lots of rides that are aimed at small children, there is also the zoo which is beautifully run and kept. That said, there is also plenty to do for the older kids too so all 4 kids had a blast.
The park is a good size which is helped by a mini train and a skyline train to help you get around plus this gives you a great view of the animals. There is lots to do and see to do but it isn’t overwhelming as some of the bigger theme parks can be. Food stands and restaurants are plentiful when you need to refuel and not too overpriced as these places can often be. I can highly recommend the delicious fish and chips. There is also lots of places to sit and eat both indoors and outside where you can also bring your own picnics should you wish.
Along with the many rides the park also has some great playground areas for kids which were very popular. The staff were all friendly and helpful and overall there was a great atmosphere around the park.
A thoroughly enjoyable day which was enjoyed by all ages from toddlers to kids, teens to parents and we’ll definitely be returning.
