A LONG AWAITED VISIT TO THE BOX TREE RESTAURANT ILKLEY
Tony has worked in the beautiful West Yorkshire town of Ilkley for many years and The Box Tree restaurant is somewhere I have always wanted to visit. So as a treat for my 44th birthday Tony booked us in for a rare lunch date together to experience this prestigious restaurant and spend some much needed quality time together.
Renowned for its fine dining French Cuisine, this Michelin star restaurant was established in 1962 as a tea room and has gone from strength to strength as a restaurant since then. In 2010 former employee Marco Pierre White bought into the restaurant putting both him and The Box Tree firmly on the map.
We were there for the lunchtime serving & were greeted as soon as we arrived. We had our coats taken and shown straight to the lounge area for drinks and to peruse the menu. Whilst enjoying our drink we were given some delicious canapés which were beautifully presented and tasted delicious.
After giving the Maitre D’ our menu choices we were then shown to our table. The staff were impeccable and the many personal touches and attention to detail is what gives this restaurant it’s outstanding reputation.
I chose the sea trout for my starter and Tony chose the leek and potato veloute. The portions were just the right size and such flavoursome dishes.
For our mains I chose the short rib of beef served with fondant potato and shallots which were all cooked to perfection and tasted exquisite. Tony opted for the Halibut which was light, tasty and melted in his mouth. As with all cordon bleu cooking the portions appear quite small when they first arrive but the food is of such wonderful quality it is the perfect portion size.
For desert I couldn’t resist the vanilla custard tartlet which tasted like no other custard tartlet I’ve ever eaten, just divine! Tony isn’t a desert person usually but he went for the passion fruit soufflé which was melt in the mouth delicious.
This was all followed by coffee and a delicious chocolate selection which again was served beautifully with so much attention to detail.
The restaurant itself is very small and is perhaps a little dated but this does however help the restaurant keep its class and reputation. It has a very cosy feel and we were made to feel extremely welcome.
A wonderful experience and it certainly lived up to my high expectations.
